During the war, there are shortages everywhere. Fabric is scarce, cuts are short and narrow. The pencil skirt represents the silhouette of the 1940s. Utility fashion emerges in England. The look is austere, simple, yet stylish. Accessories and embroideries are excluded. Traditional costumes are reborn in Germany. But not in occupied Paris, where Christian Dior opened his first atelier at the end of the 1940s.
